Patriots Bow Out Of Pro Bowl

Tom Brady, Logan Mankins, Vince Wilfork, the big name Patriots will not be appearing in the 2013 Pro Bowl due to a various assortment of maladies.

Five of the seven Patriots selected for the NFL Pro Bowl have officially withdrawn from the game.

Tom Brady, Wes Welker, Logan Mankins, Rob Gronkowski and Vince Wilfork have all opted out of participating in the Pro Bowl this weekend.  The big name Patriots will not be appearing in the 2013 game due to a various assortment of maladies.

Brady's Replacement: Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck has been named as the replacement quarterback for Patriots QB Tom Brady who will miss this year's Pro Bowl with an undisclosed injury.  It would have been Brady's 8th Pro Bowl.

Luck led the Colts to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth his rookie season.  The former Stanford Cardinal set NFL rookie records for the most passing yards (4,374), most attempts (627) and most 300-yard passing games (six).

As the No. 1 pick overall, Luck's 11 wins were the most by any No. 1 Draft pick in the modern era.

Welker's Replacement:  Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas earns his Pro Bowl nod courtesy of Wes Welker who also withdrew due to injury concerns.   Thomas finished fourth in the league with career highs of 94 receptions for 1,434 yards (15.3 avg.)  and 10 touchdowns.

Welker's season concluded with his fifth 100-catch, 1,000 yard receiving season, an NFL record.  He caught 118 passes for 1,354 yards and six touchdowns.  Welker has been named to the Pro Bowl 5 times.

Mankins' Replacement:  Denver Broncos OG Zane Beadles fills in for Mankins who battled through injury al season.  Beadles was a second round pick of Denver's in 2010, appeared in every game for Denver in 2012, allowing just one sack.   Mankins appeared in just 10 games for New England, missing time with  calf and hip injuries during the season. This would have been Mankins' 5th Pro Bowl.

Wilfork's Replacement:  Miami Dolphins DT Randy Starks was named as the replacement for Wilfork.  In 16 games for Miami Starks recorded 27 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, four passes defended and an interception.  It is his second Pro Bowl appearance (2010).

Wilfork also appeared in all 16 games this season, recording 48 total tackles, three sacks two forced fumbles and six passes defended.  This was Wilfork's 5th time being selected for the Pro Bowl.

Gronkowski's Replacement:  Houstson Texans TE Owen Daniels replaces the injured Rob Gronkowski in the Pro Bowl.  Gronkowski re-injured his arm in the Patriots 41-28 blowout of the Texans in the AFC Division playoffs.

Daniels appeared in 15 games for the Texans, recording 62 receptions for 716 yards and six touchdowns.
