It was a perfect day for Buffalo Bills training camp today, the grass was wet to start the morning but dried quickly.
Today there were not a lot of drills, they basically walked through all the situations for the preseason game on Saturday. Travis Henry finally started
taking plays again, and despite what the "official" depth chart says, the RB's are Henry, Olandis Gary, Joe Burns, Sammy Morris, De'mondParker, and then Ken Simonton. Phillip Crosby
and Sam Gash are splitting first team duties at FB, with Burns taking some reps at FB as well.
In the DE race, Keith McKenzie took reps ahead of Irons today. We have 6 guys that seem to be battling for 5 spots. Marcus Jones was held out again today, but it
seems like he is healed. At this point Aaron Schobel, Chris Kelsay, Ryan Denney and Marcus Jones are locks to make the roster. Grant Irons and Keith McKenzie seem to know they are battling
for one spot and have been very intense for the past week. It is my hope that when the coaches make their cuts they go for youth, and
keep Irons. To me he has been very good this camp and besides that he's just a stand up guy.
I got the chance to talk to Takeo Spikes and Ryan Denney today. First I asked Denney about his added mass and he replied, "you know, everyone keeps saying that
they are impressed with how much bigger I am, but in reality I only gained 5 pounds in the offseason. But something makes me look bigger, maybe it's the beard."
As for Spikes, I told him how happy we all were that he decided to come to Buffalo, and he said that nobody is happier that he's here than him. I
got the feeling he was implying bad things about Cincinnati but maybe not.
Bledsoe looked very good today as he hit almost every one of his receivers on every pass. Sam Aiken finally stepped up and made a few plays, but they were
against our 3rd string defense.
Mario Haggan did not look all that great today and has not been as impressive as I thought he would be this camp, he may not be a lock for the final roster.
Angelo Crowell however has looked much better, than expected and I think that if he weren't the 7th linebacker on the roster he would be very good in spot
Jason Johnson and Travis Brown were both horrible today, they combined for a slue of picks, but they did make a lot of our CB's and Safeties look very good.
Rian Lindell booted a few balls through the endzone on kickoffs and it wasn't a windy day so I think he has a very strong leg. But at 6'2, 230 pounds he
should be playing FB not place kicker. Anyhow, he looks just as accurate as Hollis, but with a much stronger leg.
At DT I think rookie Lauvake Sape is gonna get cut, he has not been practicing for the past week due to some unknown knee injury. Before that he didn't look
very good either.
The injured list has gotten quite lengthy this past week. Both our TE's Dave Moore and Mark Campbell were held out of practice today.
Moore has a strained hamstring and will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game against the Ravens, while Campbell (right hamstring) is expected to play, according to Coach Gregg Williams.
Also amongst the walking wounded are Safety Izell Reese (tight hamstring), defensive back Marcus Floyd (groin) and defensive end Marcus Jones (left knee). All
were held out of practice today but are expected to play Saturday. The aforementioned Lauvale Sape and rookie offensive tackle Gary Byrd (dislocated kneecap and torn tendon) will most likely be kept on the sidelines.
There isn't much more than that, it was a pretty laidback day, with the coaches taking it easy before the preseason game.
