Bills show interest in Roland Williams (Again)

Roland Williams

Five months ago we did a column about the Bills being "interested" in TE Roland Williams who was then on the open market which can be read here. Reports out of Rochester claim the team is looking at him one more time.

If signed Williams would replace Dave Moore, whom the Bills released earlier this offseason but was signed by the Bucs to replace Williams himself whom the Bucs released earlier this offseason.

If healthy Roland Wiliams would give the Bills a blocking TE in the mold of Mark Bruener who the team brouight in earlier this season. Bruener may still be on the Bills radar but in signing Williams the Bills would have a younger player and a local flair. As Williams is from nearby Rochester, New York and attended Syracuse University. He joined the league as a 4th Round pick in 1998. In 1999 he was a key contributor to the "Great Show on Turf" offense with the St. Louis Rams when he caught 25 balls including 6 TDs. Though his forte is definately blocking as he has collected only 111 catches in 77 career games. Of note he didn't catch any balls last year as a member of the Tampa Bay Bucs and may still being feeling the ill effects of a serious knee injury he sustained at the end of the 2002 season.

In other news the team lost out on free agent WR Darrell Jackson who re-signed with the Seahawks. The team also lost out on FB Terrelle Smith, whom the team brought in for a look earlier in the week as he has signed with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns were also one of the teams that Bills' RB Sammy Morris met with this week along with hated division rivals the Patriots and Dolphins. Recommended Stories
