Oliver Gibson is a a nine-year veteran. Gibson has recorded 243 tackles and 17 1/2 sacks over his career. Prior to an Archilles' tendon injury in 2002 he was a full time starter for the Bengals. He played four seasons under Bills defensive line coach Tim Krumrie, who held the same position in Cincinnati and was hired by Buffalo in 2003.
He is expected to compete for a backup spot with Ron Edwards, Justin Bannan and Lavale Sape.
In signing a two year contract he could also be used as a potential replacement for Pat Williams who is due to be an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Gibson spent his first four seasons in the NFL as a backup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers first selected Gibson in the 4th Round of the 1995 NFL draft.
In other free agent news, the team lost out on free agent OG Bobbie Williams who signed with the Bengals earlier this week.
