Bills extend Wire; re-sign Burns

In an effort to keep the league's best special teams unit together, the Bills have extended the contract of Coy Wire and re-signed Joe Burns.

Coy Wire served as the Bills special teams captain last season and has been the team's primary backup at S. Wire's extension allowed the team to lower his cap figuere for this season and now is under contract until 2006 where originally he was due to be an UFA in 2005. Wire joined the Bills as a 3rd Round in 2002 pick out of the University of Stanford.

Joe Burns on the other hand joined the Bills that same year as an undrafted free agent from Georgia Tech. Aside from serving as both a back up at RB and FB his primary role is on special teams coverage. Burns was fifth in special teams tackles last season.
