Bills to give MLB a workout

Posted May 27, 2008

Former Saginaw Valley State MLB invited for workout with Buffalo on June 17.

Replenishing talent at linebacker is a never-ending job in Buffalo. The Bills LB unit should be strong this season with the return of Paul Posluszny and addition of Kawika Mitchell.

Maybe there's a darkhorse in the neighborhood, now.

Buffalo will welcome Saginaw Valley State University middle linebacker Derek Volmering in for a workout on June 17.

Last season, Volmering was named to the first team of the GLIAC after leading his team with 119 tackles and starting all 11 games.

Volmering registered 10.5 tackles for loss, forced five fumbles and tallied four sacks. In one game against Ashland, he dominated the field with 19 tackles.

The Bills have a mini-linebacker pipeline with Saginaw Valley. Last season's starting MLB, John DiGiorgio, went to college there, as well as former Bills LB Eugene Marve.
