WR C.J. Hawthorne: Receiver Activated

C.J. Hawthorne Profile

The Bills activated wide receiver C.J. Hawthorne Friday, and waived P.K. Sam.

Hawthorne had foot surgery in June and missed Buffalo's first six days of training camp after having surgery on his left foot.

"He’ll have to ice and see how he feels tomorrow," head coach Dick Jauron said. "He’s been so automatic. He’s just always out there running. It was kind of a shock when he got hurt initially, so hopefully he’s fully back.”

Though a long shot to make the team, Hawthorne is certainly worth keeping an eye on. He has 4.4 speed and enjoyed an ultra-productive career in Hawaii's run-and-gun offense. He has a mountain of receivers ahead of him in Terrell Owens, Lee Evans, Josh Reed, Roscoe Parrish, James Hardy, Steve Johnson, Felton Huggins and Justin Jenkins. But with some big plays at camp - particularly in special teams - Hawthorne could be a darkhorse.

Buffalo hung onto him all last season on the practice squad for a reason. This is a very important camp for the 5-foot-11 wideout.
