CB Antwain Spann: Bills pick up DB

Antwain Spann Profile

One AFC East team's trash may be another's treasure. The Bills picked up defensive back Antwain Spann Friday after a successful workout. Spann has spent most of the last three seasons with the New England Patriots, before getting released this week.

Spann was a member of the Pats' practice squad, getting called up to the active roster five times. He played in 19 games. When he did play, Spann was one of the team's top special teams performers. He led the unit in stops in New England's blowout win against Arizona last season.

Defensively, Spann has experience playing both safety and cornerback. With Jairus Byrd sidelined after surgery on his sports hernia, the Bills needed another body. Maybe a new team is what Spann needs to become a NFL regular.

Also Friday, Buffalo also signed defensive lineman Corey Mace. With John McCargo and Marcus Smith banged up, the Bills needed another defensive lineman. Mace has spent time on the team's practice the past two seasons.
