RB Fred Jackson: RB battles thumb injury by Tyler Dunne of BuffaloFootballReport.com, August 26, 2009 at 12:10pm ET
Fred Jackson Profile
Fred Jackson re-aggravated a thumb injury Tuesday at practice after getting hit by Donte Whitner on a running play. He had been dealing with a bad wrist and thumb for a while.
It wasn't pretty at first blush. Jackson appeared to be in serious pain per reports and stayed stationary on the ground for a long time before going to the locker room with trainers.
“Fred got hit in the thumb and we’re hoping it’s okay,” said head coach Dick Jauron. “They took him in and looked at it and they’ll probably x-ray it too. It’s a little bit above the thumb so I don’t want to say it’s a thumb. He had fine movement in the thumb, so it’s more up in the wrist area.”
More information is expected to come soon. If Jackson is forced to miss time, it'd be a big blow to the Bills' stable of backs. Marshawn Lynch is suspended for the team's first three games, which made Jackson the starter. Dominic Rhodes and Xavier Omon would shoulder the carries in Jackson's absence. Both have had their moments through Buffalo's three preseason games. Rhodes has an innate ability to pick and choose holes, while Omon has breakaway speed.
Stay tuned to the BFR for more updates on Jackson as they break.
