Idzik spearheads Jets' front office overhaul

As the New York Jets turn the page from a disastrous 2012 regular season, their new general manager is working feverishly to change the culture in New York.

In his short tenure at the helm in the Big Apple, New York Jets general manager John Idzik has wasted little time in making wholesale changes to the organization.

In the latest of sweeping front office modifications, the Jets will reportedly not renew the contracts of assistant general manager Scott Cohen and director of football administration Art Nassim. Both Nassim and Cohen were instrumental in building the Jets' consecutive runs to AFC Championship games in 2009 and 2010, but apparently wore out their welcome after Gang Green finished out of the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

With just a handful of holdovers from former general manager Mike Tannenbaum's reign in New York, Idzik seems determined to operate with a clean slate by hand-picking his executive staff. Earlier this offseason the Jets parted ways with several long-time scouts in an apparent shift in philosophy and vision. Gang Green's post-draft house cleaning had been rumored for weeks.

The Jets didn't hesitate to shakeup their leadership along the sidelines replacing offensive coordinator Tony Sparano with Marty Mornhinweg, defensive coordinator Mike Pettine with Dennis Thurman, offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo with former quarterbacks coach Mike Devlin and bringing in quarterbacks coach David Lee along with promoting Ben Kotwica to special teams coordinator following Mike Westhoff's departure.

With fresh faces across the coaching staff and front office, the 2013 version of the New York Jets are looking to shed the ‘Circus' label by cleaning house and starting fresh. Rex Ryan and Dennis Thurman were among the few coaches who survived the offseason purge, and another subpar season could usher even more changes in Florham Park.
