Travis Brown's heinous looking injury is not as bad as reported in my post-game piece.
Injured in Indy
The biggest question is who will back up QB Drew Bledsoe. As the Bills back up QB Travis Brown suffered a serious leg injury in the third quarter. This comes only days after third string and rookie QB was carted off the practice field with a broken leg. Aside from Bledsoe the Bills only healthy QB in camp was Greg Zolman. Zolman played okay as a replacment for Brown in that he did guide the Bills to a TD drive and finished the night with 80 yards after completing 6 of 10 passes but was also intercepted and it's doubtful he'd be a guy the team want to rely on as a second string QB being he entered training camp as 4th on the depth chart.
The other question major question that rose in the defeat is what happened to the Bills special teams? As Nate Clements fumbled a punt, punter Brian Moorman saw a punt blocked, the kickoff return team also gave up an 85 yard return to Bills back up RB Dominick Rhodes, Kicker Rian Lindell missed a 49 yard field goal and Jonathan Smith (aka Fast Freddie) also dropped a kickoff and a punt. Infact the Bills had seven fumbles the entire night and the Colts had four themselves.
Also shaky was the team's first team offense, who has still yet to score a TD through 3 preseason games. Drew Bledsoe is looking better but struggled at times. Willis McGahee was average in his debut at feature RB (due to an injury to Travis Henry). Although the offensive line still had it troubles. Of course starting left OT Jonas Jennings was nursing an injury.
The first team defense did quite well, intercepting Peyton Manning twice and not allowing the Colts first team offense to complete any 3rd down conversions. Backup Kevin Thomas made the Bills play of the night intercepting a Manning pass and returning it 15 yards for a score. However not all was good news for the defense as starting SS Lawyer Milloy left the game with an apperent broken fore arm though backup Coy Wire did intercept a Manning pass as a replacement. Also leaving was starting CB Troy Vincent with an apperent jaw injury which doesn't appear to be serious.
The Bills will have their final preseason game this Thursday and better answer some of the questions left at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis of could be in for another long season.
